What are the consequences of not having an EICR?
What is EICR testing?
Fixed Wire Testing is “the MOT of your electrical installations” - making sure that all relevant installations are safe and fit for use. An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is a thorough assessment of the electrical systems and installation at your property. Fixed Wire Testing involves a thorough testing and visual inspection of all low voltage electrical systems.
After the test has been performed the electrician will grade the competency of your electrics into three categories:
C1, C2 or C3
What are the risks of not having an EICR report?
Although an EICR is not a legal requirement in itself for businesses, many property owners are bound by legal obligations to their staff, customers or tenants which can be met by an EICR inspection.
Most credible insurance companies require an Electrical Condition Report on a property before providing cover. In the event of the EICR expiring during the term of your insurance, it only takes one mishap with a tenant or employee to stop an insurer from covering court expenses.
The reality is, every day you don’t have a valid EICR certificate, you are risking being non-compliant.
