Can you prove your business is compliant with Electrical Inspection Legislation?

Here at Protest ES Ltd we are proud to partner with a wide range of education establishments throughout the UK.

These sites can vary in size from very small nurseries and primary schools all the way through to secondary schools, colleges, universities, education trusts and also the associated student accommodation blocks. It is imperative, especially where children are present, that the buildings are kept electrically safe and without risk.

All sites need to make sure that legal compliance for electrical testing is always met with the various electrical testing compliance works being carried out as set down in the legal guidance.

The dangerous situations pictured below were found in one of the main buildings for a large well known University client of ours whilst our teams of engineers were carrying out EICR Fixed Wire testing and PAT Testing.

More worryingly, these could easily be accessed by the students meaning there was an immediate risk of electrical shock or fire. Our site contact was made aware of the issues straight away and our engineers made them all safe. The client immediately instructed our engineers to repair the faults and these repairs were all carried out on the same day.

Can you demonstrate your legal compliance within The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 (EaWR 1989) and the Health and Safety Offences Act 2008 in the event of an accident, injury or fire caused by an electrical incident on your site?

The following regulation with EaWR 1989 for demonstrating compliance is one of the most important to understand and perhaps the most striking.

Systems, work activities and protective equipment:

4.—(1) All systems shall at all times be of such construction as to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, danger.

(2) As may be necessary to prevent danger, all systems shall be maintained so as to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, such danger.

(3) Every work activity, including operation, use and maintenance of a system and work near a system, shall be carried out in such a manner as not to give rise, so far as is reasonably practicable, to danger.
